Unless you are painting the nude form, your characters that you create need clothing. Deciding what type of clothes, their structure, the colors and patterns, and their details challenge us to consider WHO we are painting and WHAT they would wear. I come from a family of professional clowns, used to be one, and live in the birthplace of Mardi Gras, Mobile, Al. Costumery plays a huge role in my community and in my fascinations. JOI Costumery is not a course that teaches you step by step lessons to learn to paint like me. It IS an intensive, five-week course to challenge you to consider WHO you are painting, WHAT would they be wearing, and HOW you wish to construct that. You have access to a live and recorded weekly session, weekly modules full of recorded content and instruction, and an active, private classroom that is Ai image sharing safe. (Your images are not used to train any Ai model like FB groups and IG)We use a working journal as a creative container, a place to creatively problem solve based around our research, curiosity, and practice around ideas and style. The first half of our course is tied directly to learning to use a working journal to build a foundation of understanding around your IDEA about costumery. The second half is all about technical ways to apply our framework to our unique approach, helping each painter create their own version of interesting costumery.
